PRODUCING RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK IN PORTUGAL

The Innovation Pact “PRODUCING RAILWAY CIRCULATING MATERIAL IN PORTUGAL” aims to contribute to the diversification and complexification of the productive structure and specialization profile of the Portuguese economy. To achieve this, it proposes, through the horizontal integration of several companies specializing in different areas of expertise and supported by a broad national consortium, to develop the construction of 3 types of carriages to produce an innovative and highly necessary/needed “Portuguese Train”. Thus, by promoting research, business innovation, and cooperation, the aim is to enable the national industry to respond to the growing demand for railway rolling stock, due to the train being the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transport. In this way, this Innovation Pact is aligned with the European Union’s commitments in terms of mobility policies, and with the changes in transport strategy taking place around the world.
