MTM / Remote Online Condition Monitoring (ROCM)

The Challenge

ROCM solution implementation in Alstom X’trapolis units of Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM).

The Solution

Nomad implemented a comprehensive solution which includes train embedded software and hardware, a back-office application for data analysis and visualization and a railway engineering solution support.
The Nomad Tech Remote Online Condition Monitoring (ROCM) system provides MTM with real-time condition and diagnostic based information across key operational elements, and creates a scalable framework for the future introduction of both predictive and remote condition based maintenance methodologies.

The Results

This ground-breaking project has been recognized as the first of its kind in Australia, and, while at the forefront of innovation, has the primary objective of delivering improved levels of reliability, safety and operational efficiencies.
The implementation of this ROCM solution is breaking new ground in the Australian Rail market, and Nomad is proud to be working collaboratively with Metro to deliver such a strategic software platform.

DB Cargo / Real-time condition and diagnostic-based information for 90 locomotives

The Challenge

Real-time condition and diagnostic-based information for 90 locomotives.

The Solution

After the successful completion of a one-year trial with equipment tested, DB Cargo is installing Nomad Tech’s Remote Online Condition Monitoring (ROCM) systems across a locomotive fleet.
Nomad Tech’s ROCM systems will be installed across a DB Cargo fleet of 90 locomotives operating internationally.

The Results

The ROCM provides access to real-time condition and diagnostic-based information across key operational systems to DB Cargo.

CP – Comboios de Portugal / NxT Power

The Challenge

NxT Power – Power Traction Converter Technological Upgrade from GTO to IGBT.

The Solution

It is the result of a R&D partnership between Nomad Tech, EMEF (Portuguese Rolling Stock Maintenance Company), CP (Portuguese Railways Operator), FEUP (Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto), ISEL (Lisbon Superior Institute of Engineering), REFER (Portuguese Infrastructure Manager, currently Infraestruturas de Portugal), and it consists on an innovative low-cost and reliable upgrade of GTO-based electric power drives with IGBT components on the traction converter of the vehicles.

CP – Comboios de Portugal / Energy Savings

The Challenge

Energy Savings (Porto commuters, PT)

The EU is aiming for a 20% cut in Europe’s annual primary energy consumption by 2020 – through generation, transformation, distribution and final consumption.

The Solution

CP (Comboios de Portugal) was looking for a solution that could help them save energy during fleet service, idle time between services and night parking at the depots.

The Results

Nomad Tech installed its solution on a fleet of 34 CP EMUs, where energy savings up to 10% were achieved with Telemetering management.

The energy Telemetering and Monitoring stage is complemented by the Drivers Advisory System, which can leverage energy savings of up to 20%.

Hitachi / On Board Server – OBS

The Challenge

Remote Online Condition Monitoring solution for the Hitachi AT200/ AT300 trains intended to operate in the UK.

The Solution

An On Board Server (OBS) solution for the Hitachi’s IEP fleets Class 800, ASR fleet Class 385 and Class 395 fleet.
This OBS provides a single gateway for bidirectional transmission of all operational data between the train and trackside.
Data transmitted includes train diagnostics from the Train Management System, energy consumption, as well as daily timetable information and seat reservation.

The Results

This is one of the first times that such a tool is developed in close cooperation with the train manufacturer.
With this solution, maintenance & train operations related personnel now have a unified tool to view, analyze and manage train-related information, integrating it with other enterprise-wide software, and as such, improve their day-to-day activities.
